Real West GTA Bathrooms. Before and After.

Two Things People Worry About

Most people arrive on this page worried about the same two things. That the bathroom will end up looking clinical. And that making it accessible means admitting something.

  • White plastic grab bars against vinyl floor
  • A room that starts to look like a care facility instead of a home
  • The fear that it hurts the value of the house
  • Not knowing what is actually needed and what is being sold to you

Accessible Is a Set of Decisions, Not a Look

Curbless entry, a linear drain, a bench and grab bars finished to match your taps read as a modern spa bathroom to anyone who does not need them. Every safety decision on this page can be made without a single visible compromise. The photographs above are accessible bathrooms.

Decisions That Shape the Price

Blocking behind the walls

If you are renovating now and do not need grab bars yet, we fit plywood blocking behind the drywall wherever a bar might one day go. It costs very little while the wall is already open. Adding it later means opening the wall again. If you are renovating in your fifties or sixties, this is the single best decision on this page.

The door

If somebody falls against an inward-opening door, nobody can get in. We fit an outward swing or a pocket door. Almost nobody raises this and it is one of the few decisions that is genuinely about safety rather than comfort.

Zero-threshold entry

Either the subfloor is recessed so the shower floor sits flush, or the pan is gently ramped. Which one your house allows depends on the joists. We check before quoting.

Slip resistance

Smaller format tile means more grout lines and more grip. We can show you the slip ratings rather than telling you it will be fine.

Thermostatic anti-scald valve

Stops the water jumping temperature when a tap runs elsewhere in the house. Inexpensive, and it prevents the most common bathroom injury there is.

Turning space

A wheelchair needs real clearance. Sometimes an existing bathroom has it, sometimes it needs a wall moved, and sometimes it honestly cannot be done. We measure and tell you which one you are looking at.

Seating

A fold-down bench keeps the floor clear. A built-in tiled bench looks better and is permanent.

Lighting

Contrast helps low vision far more than brightness does. A floor-level night light helps more than anything else on this list.

If you are claiming through an insurance policy or an assistance program, tell us and we will provide the quote and documentation in whatever format they need.
